Downloading
Two types of tracks
are downloaded from Rhapsody: purchased Rhapsody tracks and downloaded
Rhapsody tracks.
Once downloaded, a local
(computer resources such as drives or files that are part of a computer, or available on a Local Area Network; music files located on your computer's hard drive(s) are referred to as "local")
music file is saved in your download file folder
(either your computer's default music folder, or a folder you select in
your General preferences) and the track
name is added to My Library. Downloaded tracks
can be played with Rhapsody even when you are offline.
Music files that you download from sources
other than Rhapsody can be imported
into My Library. Select File > Add Tracks to
My Library from the Rhapsody menus.

Purchased Rhapsody Tracks
|
Tracks or albums that
you purchase and download from the Music
Guide appear in My Library as purchased
tracks.
You own the rights
to transfer and play
the track on a portable player or device,
or burn it to a CD. If you share
these tracks, you are only sending the bookmark for the track in the Music
Guide.
Purchased tracks are
available when you sign in to your paid
Rhapsody account from another computer, but they will appear as streamed (process of breaking a large audio or video file into smaller pieces and transferring it, piece by piece, so it can be viewed immediately rather than waiting for the whole file to be downloaded)
subscription tracks in My Library. You can choose to re-download
them to the new computer. You
can download purchased tracks up to three times with no additional charge. (If you purchase a track with the Buy MP3 option, you will not be able to re-download the track, but you can copy the file as needed.)

Downloaded Rhapsody Tracks
|
Many Rhapsody tracks
are available for download. When a Rhapsody track is downloaded, a music
file is saved on your computer. The downloaded Rhapsody track can be played
offline, shared online, and, with the appropriate
membership, transferred to a compatible
portable player or device. It cannot
be burned to a CD unless you purchase it.
You must have the appropriate Rhapsody membership to download and transfer Rhapsody tracks. Downloaded Rhapsody tracks are only available to users on Windows XP systems or later. Operating systems prior to XP cannot support downloaded Rhapsody tracks.
Not all downloaded
Rhapsody tracks can be transferred to a portable player or device. Some
artists and labels have not granted subscription transfer rights to their
tracks. If you attempt to transfer a downloaded Rhapsody track that does
not have transfer rights, the "Purchase"
dialog will open.

Internet Download
|
- These
music files are found and downloaded outside of Rhapsody.
- You can
find music
and audio files all over the internet. Check the websites of your favorite
bands and artists. They frequently offer music you can legally download.
Many humor and entertainment sites have free tracks to download as well.
- Import
non-Rhapsody downloads from File
> Add Tracks to My Library in the Rhapsody
menus.
Tracks downloaded from anywhere other than
Rhapsody cannot be shared through Rhapsody,
and they will not be available in My Library
if you sign in to your Rhapsody

Any playlist you add
from Playlist Central, a shared email or blog
(a web log; an online diary or log kept on a website),
or playlists you create from tracks in the Music
Guide will not be added to My Library, and
the playlist contents will not be downloaded to your hard drive, even
if you have Download tracks to my hard
drive... selected in your Preferences.
To add a playlist or tracks from a playlist
to My Library, just drag the playlist or playlist tracks to
My Library in the
Sources area.
Any playlist, or tracks from any playlist,
dragged into
My Library
will be automatically downloaded if available.
Streamed
(process of breaking a large audio or video file into smaller pieces and transferring it, piece by piece, so it can be viewed immediately rather than waiting for the whole file to be downloaded)
Rhapsody tracks and downloaded (but not purchased)
Rhapsody tracks are "membership" tracks. You can play them as
long as you have a premium Rhapsody membership.
If you choose to end your premium Rhapsody membership, any streamed and downloaded
Rhapsody tracks in your Library will no longer
be playable.
Any Rhapsody tracks that you purchased,
however, are yours to keep.
