Authorize and Deauthorize a Computer or Portable Device

Authorize Your Computer

Authorization (enabling Rhapsody's digital rights management, or DRM) takes place automatically when you download Rhapsody onto your computer. Authorization is necessary to play secure music (music you have purchased and/or downloaded from Rhapsody). The authorization is retained on your computer, and with your account information at Rhapsody. You can have up to three (3) authorized computers at any one time.

Although authorization is automatic, there may be times when you will need to authorize or deauthorize a computer by hand. You can do this from the Rhapsody Tools menu.

Authorize Your Portable Device

Authorizing your portable player or device allows it to communicate with Rhapsody, and to accept Rhapsody content. If you have a Rhapsody To Go membership and a compatible portable device, your device will be registered during setup. You can also register a portable device at any time from the portable device name in the Sources area, using the right-click menu. You can have up to three (3) registered devices at any one time.

How do I know how many computers or portable devices I have authorized?

To check on your authorizations:

  1. Select Manage My Account from the Rhapsody "My Account" menu.
  2. Enter your Rhapsody password when you are prompted to do so.
  3. Click Authorizations on the left side of the "Account Summary" dialog. The Authorizations dialog will open. From here, you can see how many computers and portable devices you have authorized, and you can choose to rename or deauthorize computers and devices.

Note:  You can always reauthorize a computer after you have deauthorized it, provided you have not reached your limit of three (3) authorized computers.

Likewise, you can reauthorize a portable device after you have deauthorized it, provided you have not reached your limit of three
(3) authorized devices.

Important: Before uninstalling Rhapsody from any of your computers, you must deauthorize that computer.
